The Texas Outdoor
Writers Association awards merit scholarships. In order to qualify,
applicants must have completed, or are planning to enroll during
the next calendar year, in communications courses related to the outdoors, environmental conservation
or wildlife management at an
accredited college or university in Texas.
A $1,500 Merit
Award is available to all college-level students, freshman through graduate or professionals seeking further training in a career utilizing
written communications skills relating to the outdoors, environmental
conservation or wildlife management.

In addition
to the initial application, students who met the initial requirements
must submit the following in order to be considered:
- A letter
of recommendation from a department head or faculty advisor.
- A copy of
your transcript or degree plan.
- A written
summary of your activities and/or related work in outdoor communications, environmental conservation
or wildlife management,
including work samples, if appropriate.
